The Job Hunting Games: May the Odds be ever in your favor

Job Hunting can be the most stressful thing we have to deal with. Finding a job, putting together a CV, preparing for interviews etc.
So to make life a little easier I have put together all the essential things you need to know going through the job hunting process, from what to wear, how to find a job, how to prepare for interviews, you name it. Right here in one blog post. So lets get started!!!

Firstly lets look at....

STEPS TO FIND A NEW JOB

1. Find Job Listings. Newspapers, The Internet, University Websites, Company Websites.

2. Focus your job search. Searching for vacancies using key words. For example narrowing it down to your field of study, skills && capabilities.

3. Build your brandCreate profiles on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Visual CV. A strong personal brand that portrays you in a professional light will provide recruiters, employers, and contacts with a strong positive impression of you as a candidate they should be interested in.

6. Create a list of companiesDo you have a list of companies you would like to work for? It's a good idea to research company information and create a list of companies to target in your job search.

7. Target your resume && cover letter. It's important to take the time to write targeted resumes and cover letters that specifically link your qualifications to the hiring criteria for the jobs you are applying for. The hiring manager will be able to see, at a glance, why, and how, you are qualified for the job. You'll have a much better chance of getting an interview than if you send a generic letter and resume

4. Connect with your contacts. Now that you've created profiles on networking sites, use them. Connect with everyone you know, because you never know which contact may be able to help you with your job search or put you in touch with someone who can.

5. Use Job search tools. There are a variety of widgets, gadgets, and tools that will help expedite your job search and manage your career. Use them to organize your job search and save valuable job searching time.

8. The Interview: Research the company before you go for the interview, dress appropriately, practice answering and asking interview questions, and make a concerted effort to impress the interviewer with your skills, experience, confidence, and expertise

Now that we have looked at how to find a Job lets get into THINGS WE SHOULD DO TO PREPARE FOR AN INTERVIEW

We have covered most of the steps in "the finding the job" section. It is vital to know the company you have applied to as well as preparing a targeted cover letter and resume, both of which are important when going into the interview room.

1. Practice Practice Practice. The Interview process can be intense & scare most people, that is why it is good to practice your answers beforehand. Things you need to remember: MAKE EYE CONTACT, GREET with a smile & handshake & answer in full direct sentences.

2. Look Professional. First impressions are everlasting so your attire is a major priority. To help, I have put together a few looks that would be good for an interview.

PS: Wear as little make up as possible!!! as well as jewelry... it can be very distracting

3. Be Early!!! the early bird catches the worm as they say. Make sure you know the time of the interview as well as the venue. Using tools such as Google maps! it will help you manage your time effectively.

4. Get enough sleep! zzzzZZzzzzzz... Make sure that you go to bed early the night before your interview, so that you are rested && wake up refreshed && prepared.

5. Get a good breakfast! since you are well rested, it would be a good idea to get a great start to the day with breakfast! So you are filled with energy && ready!!!

10. Clear Your Schedule
If you know you’re having an interview, try and schedule your activities around it. You never know how long an interview is going to last. It can be anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour.

I hope this post was helpful && enlightening! Finding a job need not be stressful or daunting. Researching for this post has shown me that there many help centers, job placement agencies that are equipped to help you. Have a look at them! They are a big help.
